This article is about the system in Mass Effect 3 to recover War Assets. For the system used to scan planets for resources in Mass Effect 2, see Planet Scanning. |
Search and Rescue is a system in Mass Effect 3 that replaces the Planet Scanning mini-game from Mass Effect 2. The Normandy SR-2 is equipped with a new and improved scanning pulse that can detect objects of interest. This can be used to uncover War Assets, artifacts, intel, and salvage as the player flies around a system. The effective range of a pulse is limited, so multiple scans are often required to cover an entire system. Objects of interest can be found in numerous celestial bodies and oftentimes in the empty spaces between planets as well: wreckage floating around and initially unseen on the Galaxy Map can also be salvaged for fuel.
Mechanics Edit
The scanning itself is done by a push of a button wherein a pulse originates out from the ship for a short distance revealing anything of interest within its effective range. Once a point of interest is found, be it something on a planet or a wreck in space, it shows up with a marker that allows the player to fly to it. When flying over a wreck, the player may interact with the object by investigating it. If the object is on a planet, the Normandy must be flown into the planet's atmosphere. From here, the player may scan the planet's surface in a manner similar to the Planet Scanning system of Mass Effect 2. When the point of interest is located, a probe must be sent out to retrieve it.
It is possible to find and salvage non-planet-based wreckage without using the scanner. When the Normandy flies past wreckage, a sound can be heard. The player can then double click (on the PC) on that spot to salvage the fuel from the wreckage without having first scanned it. Note that salvaging wreckage in this manner will not cause the 'XX% Assets Recovered' indicator to be displayed, although it will be updated if it is already displayed.
In total, 1290 War Assets can be obtained from the Search and Rescue system, with an additional 200 from Mass Effect 3: Leviathan, 440 from artifacts, and 50 from completing Aria: Blue Suns using the Paragon route. A total of 100,000 credits can be salvaged, with an additional 10,000 from Mass Effect 3: Leviathan and 170,000 from artifacts. In addition, 7 Intel items can be found.
Reaper detection Edit
Every scanning sweep done in a system that does not contain a mission fills a small meter that indicates the Reapers' growing awareness of the Normandy's location. This bar fills faster or slower depending on how many entry points to the system the Reapers have, and how close to them the player is when the Scanner is used. Once the meter fills, all Reapers occupying the system enter it, and chase the Normandy. The only way to evade capture and destruction by the Reapers is to exit the system, either by reaching the system boundaries or by reaching the mass relay in a gateway system. Reaper awareness meters on all compromised systems are reset after completing a mission.
Although Reapers will eventually reach higher speed than the Normandy, their initial movements are slow. One can easily scan the system quickly to find all the points of interest and then evade the Reapers. Reapers do not advance on you as you investigate a place of interest. However, it is not suggested that you conduct a mission while Reapers are in your system. Note that sending a scanning pulse will momentarily decrease your speed slightly.
The location of your ship when re-entering an alarmed system depends on the way your ship faces before entering: the Normandy will enter the system at such a point that the ship's FRONT will face towards the CENTRAL STAR, and the ship will be facing the same direction it does on the cluster map. This can be used to great advantage if you know about a point of interest near the edge of the star system - fly out of the system (to the cluster map), and with a tiny engine burst, orient yourself in the appropriate direction. When you click on 'Enter system', you will be near the point of interest and can retrieve it before Reapers even reappear.
Detection Types Edit
Note: The identity of an object found on a planet is only revealed after a probe has been launched to its location.

This article is about resources which include minerals and materials used for developing items in Mass Effect: Andromeda. For the assignment in Mass Effect, see UNC: Valuable Minerals. For the planetary resources scanning system in Mass Effect 2, see Planet Scanning. For the system in Mass Effect 3 to recover War Assets, see Search and Rescue. |
In Mass Effect: Andromeda, the inventory resources tab consists of five main categories. All six resources types in the resource category do not count towards the Inventory item limit.
Minerals Edit
Raw minerals are the most common materials used in research and development. They can be discovered in space, purchased from merchants, or even picked up on foot in small amounts, but the best way to acquire minerals is with the Nomad's mining system.
When exploring a planet, establish forward stations to detect major mineral deposits.
Acquisition Edit
- Merchants
All minerals can be acquired by purchasing from certain merchants. Increasing the maximum purchasable amount of materials is possible by unlocking the Commerce cryo pod perk Supply Lines.
- Probes
When exploring a star system or celestial objects via the galaxy map, Dr. Suvi Anwar may alert Ryder to an anomaly. Locating and probing the anomaly may yield some minerals or salvage although it does not return as much minerals compared to mining. See Tempest Scanning Rewards for details.
- Mining
While mining minerals from a vehicle is not new to the Mass Effect series, the method differs in Mass Effect: Andromeda. Pokemon blazed glazed guide 1.
- While exploring a planet, Ryder can establish a Forward Station marked as and basic mining zones indicated as are then revealed on the map.
- If the ND1 Nomad is within a mining zone, SAM will notify Ryder that the area can be mined for resources.
- Toggle open the Nomad's mining computer display and drive around the mining zone until one or more of the mineral column signal increases.
- Drive around a bit more to make sure the signal is as strong as it's going to get, then deploy a mining drone.
- The drone will mine in a radius outlined by an orange line; Ryder can no longer find any resources within this perimeter.
- All minerals gathered will be transferred to Ryder's inventory immediately.
- When almost all minerals have been mined in the area, the SAM and the mining display will indicate that the zone is depleted.
- Additional enhancedand rare mining zones can be revealed if the Science cryo pod perks Expanded Field Analysis and Expanded Field Analysis II are unlocked.
- On Foot
Ryder will also locate mineral nodes while completing missions by foot on the planet surface. Most nodes will only require direct interaction but occasionally SAM will advise Ryder of an 'unknown mineral'. This mineral could be something not encountered before, or it could be a special request by an NPC. Use the scanner to scan the node. Containers also might have minerals.
- Deconstruction
- See also: Deconstruct
Ryder can acquire minerals by deconstructing (breaking down) weapons and armor obtained through combat, exploration, or purchase. The minerals used to craft an item are what will be returned during deconstruction but at a reduced amount.
- Deconstruction is a very effective strategy for to obtain hard-to-find and/or expensive minerals. Certain resources (Vanadium for example) can actually be acquired for fewer credits after deconstruction than by purchasing the mineral itself.

Tech Materials Edit
Technological materials are found are found among the various sapient species of Andromeda. Tech materials are “species”-specific base materials that are used in crafting items. An item’s technological origin (Milky Way , Heleus , or Remnant ) can be a good indicator of the base materials that may be used in the crafting of the item.

Salvage Edit
These items have no practical use for Ryder in the field, but can be sold to merchants for a tidy profit.
- Different salvage items differ in value; the higher the value, the more credits gained for selling it.
- Deconstructing salvage destroys the item and does NOT give resources. As resources do not count towards the item inventory limit, it is better to save them for sale.
- Commerce cryo pod perks Grey Market Connections and Grey Market Connections II increase the amount of credits salvage items can be sold for.
Salvage items sell for a premium on Elaaden:
- Annea at The Paradise pays twice the base credit worth of a salvage item.
- The Blood Threshers Manager and Team Ryncol Manager at the New Tuchanka fighting pit pay five times the base credit worth of a salvage item.
Tip: The best strategy is to sell salvage items to the fighting pit managers as they pay more for salvage than anyone else (even with the previously mentioned Commerce cryo pod perks at a different merchant).

From the moment you gain full control of the Normandy after the first mission, you can head to several Platinum-rich planets to probe all the Platinum you'll need for every upgrade.
Engineer Class Bonus
Engineers can benefit from cheaper upgrades after picking either Tech Mastery specialization. Hold off on upgrading anything until Shepard becomes a Mechanic or a Demolisher; both use 25 percent fewer resources when using the Normandy's research station.
Remember: Top Up Your Probes
In any major star cluster, you can have the Normandy stop and pick up probes and fuel. At first, you can only hold 30 probes, but getting the Modular Probe Bay upgrade after recruiting the assassin doubles this threshold. To gain access to upgrades, recruit the scientist in the quarantined apartments on Omega first.
First Target: Omega NebulaSo in comes the Dragon Age Combat Tweaks mod, ready to try and set things right and make the combat that much closer to perfection. Combat TweaksCombat in Dragon Age is extremely engaging and a hell of a lot of fun, but it isn’t perfect. If you can restrain yourself from abuse, however, the Pocket Plane is an essential download. Dragon age origins cheats. Like the Advanced Tactics mod, the Combat Tweaks mod is a must-have do to some minor but important changes it makes to Dragon Age.The changes in help make combat more intuitive by clearing up a few gray areas in how combat works. For example, feedback about special melee attacks is strangely absent in the stock game.
Deep in the Omega Nebula where you'll recruit the scientist and Archangel, there are several planets bursting with Platinum and other useful resources. In the Fathar System are two planets with over 14,000 Platinum apiece: Lorek and Dorgal.
If you return to Lorek after completing the first two missions after Freedom's Progress, you can dock as part of the N7: Lost Operative mission. Completing the quest on this planet earns you some additional Platinum for your efforts.
In the Sahrabarik System, Bindur offers 15,000 Platinum. You cannot dock on this freezing planet.

Finally, navigating into the Batalla System, you'll find Thunawanuro, worth 14,000 Platinum. Remember to gather more fuel and probes before taking the mass relay to the Eagle Nebula.
Second Target: Eagle Nebula
Once you've entered the Eagle Nebula, make for the Amun System to find Anhur. Although the scanner reports the planet to be rich, it's not quite as abundant with Platinum as those in the Omega Nebula; Anhur only has 10,700 Platinum to offer.
However, move over to the Relic System to find Rough Tide, a purple planet that offers a higher amount of Platinum: 14,700.
Final Targets: Ismar Frontier and Hourglass Nebula
The last few Platinum-rich planets available at the start of the game are tucked away in the Ismar Frontier and the Hourglass Nebula. In the Frontier, head into the Elysta System to find Odasst for 13,700 Platinum. On the way out, make a quick stop into the Aquila System to probe Volturno for 10,400 Platinum.
Lastly, you can stop by the Hourglass Nebula to find Erinle in the Osun System. Probing this planet will reward you with a high yield of 14,100 Platinum.
Extra Content? You'll Need Extra Resources
Additional downloadable content for 'Mass Effect 2' adds new missions, many of which include additional resources to collect. For example, finding Kasumi Goto and completing her loyalty mission rewards you with 2,000 more Platinum.
